How To Register A Business Under An Assumed Name

Businesses, except corporations and some partnerships, are registered under an assumed name. You must be at least 18 years of age to file a business registration.  Business registrations are valid for five years.

Register A Business In Person

Visit the Macomb County Clerk's Offices at 40 North Main (first floor of the Macomb County Court Building) in Downtown Mount Clemens. CLICK HERE for directions to the Macomb County Clerk's Office.


Register A Business By Mail

Include the required form (see information box at right) and enclose a check or money order. Mail to Macomb County Clerk, Attn: Businesses, 40 North Main, Mount Clemens, MI 48043.


Registering For Michigan Business Taxes

To register for Michigan business taxes or obtain a Michigan Sales Tax License, please contact the Michigan Department of Treasury online at: www.michigan.gov/treasury or by calling 517-636-4660.

  • The person filing the business registration must present valid photo identification (driver's license or state ID).
  • All owners must have their signatures notarized. If the form is signed in the Clerk's Office, our staff will notarize all of the signatures.
  • Appropriate filing fee.
