County clerk hitting the road

By Andrew Benoit, Voice Staff Writer

Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh and her staff will be traveling to a different location throughout the county each month as part of her mobile clerk's office program. The first stop on the tour will be at Richmond's Lois Wagner Memorial Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 19.

In an effort to make services offered in the main office accessible to people who would normally have a hard time getting to the office, Sabaugh will be hitting each corner of the county and will offer almost every service provided in her main office. The program started in 2004 and utilizes different libraries throughout the county to setup the mobile stations.

"Some people are surprised when they find us inside because they were expecting some sort of mobile command center like the sheriff has," Sabaugh said.

Sabaugh said her office schedules visits to the county's northern most communities in the winter because the weather and road conditions can make it hard for those residents to visit the main office in Mount Clemens.

The list of services available at the mobile offices include birth and marriage documents, business registrations, real estate recordings and deeds, voter registration and concealed weapon applications.

Sabaugh said that the libraries throughout the county have always made more than enough room for them when they visit. She said people realize that parking can be problematic in downtown Mount Clemens and these local visits can really be convenient for some people.

The dates and times have not been set for Sabaugh's other local stops but will be available in the coming weeks by going to and clicking on County Clerk.
