Michigan Automated Systems Industry Collaborative Formed

A new effort is underway to support and grow Michigan’s reputation as a national leader in the design, development and manufacturing of automated systems and robotic technologies.  At the forefront of advanced manufacturing, this technology touches many industries including aerospace, agriculture, automotive, defense, medical devices, transportation and logistics.

The new Michigan Automated Systems Collaborative (MASC) was formed to promote, attract and grow the industry throughout the state.

Led by department Senior Economic Development Specialist Vicky Rad, MASC includes representation from industry, academia, professional associations and government.  Founding members represent Comet/RobotTown, Automation Alley, Michigan Economic Development Corp., Pratt & Miller, General Dynamics Land Systems, National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, Soar Technology, Michigan Department of Transportation, Center for Automation Research, Quantum Signal and TTI.  This initiative was established through an economic development grant awarded to Macomb County from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

Collective goals and objectives of MASC include:

  • Help grow Michigan automated systems industry and attract new investment
  • Identify industry needs and collaborate to create solutions
  • Grow and retain talent
  • Promote partnerships and alignment of key stakeholders
  • Solidify Michigan’s leadership in automated vehicle technology
  • Align activity by sharing information about opportunities, events, conferences and related success stories

MASC launched a website earlier this month that features information about the existing assets that make this industry a good match for Michigan’s core competencies.  MASC members are currently looking for others to get involved.  Related companies, organizations and colleges with pertinent programs are encouraged to list themselves in the online directory.
